QUESTIONS I WAS ASKED:
WHAT DO YOU EXPECT TO GET OUT OF BLOGGING?
In all honesty… happiness. I started this blog because it combined two things I love: books and blogs. I’ve never had big goals, especially not where numbers are concerned. If I don’t care about being defined by a number in every other way, i.e. scales and grades and salary, then why should I care that deeply about the numbers of people viewing, following, and commenting on my blog? Even if one person views it then I’m happy. My blog was created for me, to give me something to do with my time, to provide a distraction from my anxiety, and so that I could have a purpose. If blogging starts to make me unhappy then it goes. But, for now, I’m happy and passionate and loving what I’m doing.
WHAT IS THE MOST VALUABLE THING YOU’VE LEARNED FROM BLOGGING?
That you (and me) are important. It doesn’t matter how many bloggers come before you and how many will come after you. By being you, you have something invaluable to offer the blogging community, which is something no one can take from you. There are hundreds, maybe even thousands, of book bloggers, of mental health bloggers, of lifestyle bloggers, and even (insert your blogging niche, if you have one, here), but none of them are you. I can’t tell you the amount of times I’ve cried and felt like giving up because I’ve been struck down with such intense anxiety over my blog. But despite the hundreds of people with a similar blog, the content I’m putting out, the opinions that I’m sharing, all of it is unique because it’s all mine. There is a place for everyone in the blogging community.
BEST ADVICE YOU HAVE EVER RECEIVED?
That while I’m busy spending all my time worrying and allowing the anxiety to consume me, life is happening all around me. The world hasn’t stopped. The world won’t stop. My life is happening now and I can either enjoy it while I have it, while I’m still young and able enough to do all the things I want and dream about, or I can spend it being anxious and worrying about everything. The last thing I want is to wake up in ten years time and regret not having lived the life I wanted to live.
This was said to me by my boyfriend. He’s constantly giving me advice, especially where my anxiety is concerned and he’s always encouraging me to live my best life.
RECENT MILESTONE YOU HAVE REACHED?
In terms of my blog, I was approached by an author to review their book, so that was pretty cool. I’ve reached over 700 followers on Twitter, which is insane to me that all these people want to hear what I have to say or they enjoy the stuff I put out. It’s both bizarre and amazing at the same time.
TELL US THREE THINGS ABOUT YOURSELF.
- My favourite family tradition is throwing a party for the Eurovision Song Contest. I look forward to it every year.
- I’m allergic to codeine and cheap metal, which means I can’t have any piercings because my body attacks them.
- I absolutely love bad jokes and puns. I get most of my jokes from my Dad and think they’re hilarious!
WHAT’S YOUR DAILY BLOGGING ROUTINE?
It’s pretty much go on social media in the morning and catch up on what’s been happening while I’ve been asleep, work a full day (not blogging, unfortunately), and then scroll through Twitter when I really should be writing blog posts. I also try to dedicate a few hours a night to reading so that I have content to review. On the weekends, I try to spend a couple of hours reading and commenting on other people’s blog posts.
IF YOU COULD SIT DOWN FOR A CHAT WITH SOMEONE (DEAD OR ALIVE), WHO WOULD IT BE AND WHY?
I would go quite personal with this one. I would have a chat with my granddad, who passed away when I was only three. Despite having lived with him for those first three years of my life, I have absolutely no memories of him. All I have to go on are pictures, but I get quite upset when I look at them because I will myself to remember but I never do. I would love to just have a few uninterrupted hours with him.
HOW DO YOU COME UP WITH CONTENT FOR YOUR POSTS?
Most of the time it’s usually when I’m in work and thinking about anything other than work. I tend to find inspiration from all over the place, except when I’m sitting in front of my laptop to write.
WHAT’S YOUR FAVOURITE POST OF ALL TIME?
This is a tough one since my blog hasn’t been going all that long, but I did really like the post I made on my reading habits, which you can read here.
FAVOURITE TV SERIES (THAT YOU COULD WATCH ANYTIME)?
I have to choose just one?! How am I supposed to pick just one? If I really have to then I guess it would be Supernatural. I’ve been watching it for six years now and I absolutely love it.
IF YOU COULD LIVE ANYWHERE, WHERE WOULD YOU LIVE AND WHY?
I don’t think I would move. In all honesty, I love where I live. It’s on the coast of Wales, somewhere most people have probably never heard of or can pronounce. It doesn’t have as much as a city, but it does have everything I need. I’m a homebody. However, I would like to visit other countries, just not stay there. I want to go to Japan, on a road trip through America, on a road trip through Europe, Australia and New Zealand, Iceland, and Canada, just to name a few!

- Ruth in Revolt
- Roachie’s Reviews
