At the beginning of the month, I was tagged by the lovely Bookish Pisces to do the Trick or Treat tag – an original tag as created by Bookish Pisces as part of Blogtober. If you’re not following her blog then you’re seriously missing out!
So what is the Trick or Treat tag? You know those books that you’ve been so excited to read and were disappointed because they never lived up to the hype? Those are books that will be labelled as ‘Trick’. And those books that became unexpected delights will be labelled as ‘Treat’.
I was hyped to read this book – I had seen it everywhere. I had heard it was such a cute, fluffy read with some intense moments, so I was looking forward to getting stuck into this story. Imagine my surprise when I was thoroughly disappointed with the plot. I just couldn’t believe these characters. I didn’t like Eleanor. I didn’t like the way she treated Park. I honestly didn’t really like Park that much. It was a huge disappointment for me from start to finish. This one is definitely a TRICK.
This was a book that was recommended to me by Sam from Sleepy Sam Reads (one of my all-time favourite bloggers and blogs, go and show her some love if you’re not already following) to read before Six of Crows, which is one of my most anticipated reads. Given all the love that Six of Crows has been receiving, I didn’t hesitate to order a copy of this as soon as Sam recommended it. I cannot thank her enough for this because the Grisha trilogy has completely captivated me. I absolutely adore this series and I’m super excited to get through the trilogy. This is most definitely a TREAT.
I saw the movie before I read the book. If I’m being honest, I’m pretty glad that I did. If I had read the book first then I wouldn’t have watched the movie. This was the most disappointing book I’ve read this year. It was even worse than how I felt about Everything, Everything by Nicola Yoon, which just infuriated me more than anything. I know this is an unpopular opinion but this is one book that I’m going to label a TRICK.
When I first joined Bookstagram after being away from the book community for so long (several years, in fact), this was one of the first books that appeared in my feed. I fell in love with the plot as soon as I heard it. As soon as I started reading this book, I knew it was going to make its way up to the top of the list of my favourite books. The twist at the end was one I didn’t see coming at all. I adore this book and I’m super pumped for the sequel! This Mortal Coil is without a doubt a TREAT!
Which books would be in your TRICK or TREAT piles? Do we have any that are the same? I’d love to know!
